Check In from the Morgan Hill Team: Roma Shah, Susan Kirchhoff, and Kennedy Nguyen

Hello, we are Roma Shah, Susan Kirchhoff, and Kennedy Nguyen. We are the co-leads of the Morgan Hill team. We are so excited to be able to share our progress with you all. 

For a year and a half, we have been working for Morgan Hill to create a Climate Action Plan. After making numerous public comments, doing research, and working with council members, Morgan Hill City Council unanimously voted ‘yes’ and passed their first  Climate Action Plan (A Climate Action Plan is a comprehensive roadmap that outlines the specific activities that an agency will undertake to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions).

One of our most recent initiatives has been working on developing a campus clean-up competition between the high schools in our town. We hope that it will not only beautify our schools but also spread more awareness about climate action. 

As you can see, from our time in this position, we have had numerous opportunities to learn about utilizing our power as individuals to combat climate change through advocacy. From giving public comments to working with the Morgan Hill team and SVYC, we have gained experience in leadership and communication.

And finally, we want to give special thanks to Diya Kandhra and Jared Lebovitz for being our amazing advisors. We’d also like to thank Councilwoman Yvonne Martinez Beltran, Swanee Edwards, and Dashiell Leeds for supporting us and helping us to be where we are today.
